Tanya’s Take I have not grown this native cultivar but have heard many good things about it. Striking blooms summer through fall, eats up our heat and humidity. Does well in dry soils. It has been reported that deer tend to avoid this plant, but this is unconfirmed by me. Still I'm going to try it for sure. It's actually reported to make good cut flowers, so we'll see...

Pollinators served Bees and butterflies frequent the flowers, while songbirds feast on seeds.

Color and texture Vertical habit, topped with blooms!

Flowers Blooming from mid-summer through early fall, golden yellow flowers have a fiery red-orange center atop contrasting purple stems, making a unique cut flower.

Height 3-4' x 1-2' wide. Perfect size for every garden, and so many ecological benefits!

Sun, part shade or shade? Sun to part shade.

Soil moisture Average to dry, but probably flowers more with more regular water.

Preferred soils Highly adaptable

Is it a bully? No. I've heard through the grapevine that it expands at a reasonable rate

Toughness rating: Tough as nails.

Should you give this plant a try: Yes. In full sun locations where you want a pop of late season color!
