Specialty tulips...the frills, the flounces, the fringes, the colors!

From over 600 years of breeding, specialty tulips will be the brightest spot in your world in the middle of winter's brown and white chilly cold. Literally changing in the vase every day, tulips are a beautiful journey to enjoy. These are not grocery store tulips, my flower friend! Every one deserves these tulips in their life.

You get the freshest tulips for the longest vase life From December to March, we force tulips hydroponically in Takoma DC. From March to April, we have tulips grown in our Petworth field location. From winter through spring we harvest tulips every day, sometimes twice a day, to bring you the best blooms.

What does Large or Extra Large mean?

In general -

Large is 8-10 stems - this is plenty for a 6 person dining room table
Extra large is 16-20 stems - for just more wow! or for multiple vases (for the flower lover who like blooms in many rooms.)

We grow a rotating cast of multiple styles - fringe, multi color, parrot, double blooms, peony like and sometimes common singles. For us, there's always something different that is our best currently in bloom!

These are 'grower's choice' bunches - you will have the option to indicate a preference for jewel tone, pastel tone blooms or a specific color BUT...we do not guarantee you will get that color or color tone. We DO guarantee you will get the best blooms we have.

Stem length for specialty tulips varies widely - some tulips naturally grow shorter at 12"-14". Some are tall, elegant wonders topping 18-20" for your tallest vase. We grow them all and exploring the different stem length is part of the fun.

HOW PICK UP WORKS

You will receive an email when your tulips are ready for pick up.

Then, come to 808 Aspen St NW DC 20012 in TAKOMA DC for an easy peasy porch pick up!

Here's what to expect when you pick up

Tulips love it cold and are routinely stored at 30°. Your tulips will be out on the porch in a bucket as early at 8am. You can come anytime, grab the bunch that speaks to you and be on your way! No need to schedule or knock. If the weather is bad, the blooms may be inside an insulated box. Just open the box, grab your tulips, and go!

Things to expect from tulips

Unlike many blooms, tulips change a lot in the vase. To me, they are a journey to enjoy. In particular,

tulip blooms will grow in the vase, some grow twice as large or more.
tulip stems for the longer stemmed varieties will keep growing as well, many times by several inches. If they droop over the vase excessively, experiment with cutting inches off the stem to keep them looking how you like them.
lighter colored tulips sometimes turn exquisite translucent tones as they age, sometimes lasting for up to two weeks as they senesce.
