Adiantum pedatum - MAIDENHAIR FERN

Sale price$0.00

TANYA'S TAKE: I have long wanted to plant this fern, it is so delicate and lovely! I'm going to plant it in the moistest part of my yard and hope for the best...I know others who grow it successfully here in DC in areas of where they have dark cool locations so that's where I'm going to try it. It's native habitat is wooded slopes and ravines, not super wet spots. Indeed, it's reported to do fine in average to moist soils and is tolerant of drier soils than many ferns.

Pollinators served n/a

Color and texture  Finely textured, medium green with lovely dark contrasting stems.

Flowers  n/a

Height  1-2' x 1-2'

Sun, part shade or shade?  Full shade

Is it a bully?  Nope

Drought tolerance  Limited

Toughness rating  In a average to moist spot it's probably fairly adaptable, but this is not a bulletproof plant.

Should you give this plant a try?  If you have full shade spot with a lot of compost or leaves for mulch. Or a moist spot or in a rain garden with full shade. Or maybe even where you have a downspout discharging...as long as it's minimal sun.

Is this native?  Yup. DC, MD and VA
