Phlox divaricata- PHLOX 'MAY BREEZE'

Sale price$3.75

Tanya’s Take: I have not grown this native cultivar but have grown other woodland phlox and they struggle for me because I don't water enough (OK, almost never). However, it is a recommended native pollinator cultivar and I have a good shady low spot for it. I'm going to give it a try.

Pollinators served: Phlox divaricata flowers are a valuable early season nectar source for swallowtail butterflies, day flying sphinx moths (like hummingbird moths and clearwing moths) and hummingbirds.

Color and texture:  Medium textured plant with a mounding habit. 1' topped with blooms.

Flowers:  Light blue in spring-summer for about a month

Height:  1.5'

Sun, part shade or shade? Part sun is best.

Is it a bully?  Very well mannered, clump forming plant

Drought tolerance: Once established, some but best in consistent moisture.

Toughness rating:  Just OK.

Should you give this plant a try: Yes. If you have a shady spot with lots of good soil and a reasonable amount of moisture. No, if it's bone dry where you we're thinking of planting it. Just don't.
