Tanya’s Take I have not grown this plant but have grown cultivars and observed it many times in the wild. A graceful, tall lady for the right conditions.

Pollinators served Many. A fall favorite.

Color and texture Very vertical grower happily reaching 8' or more in perfect conditions.

Flowers Very striking dark purple

Height  5-8' plus

Sun, part shade or shade? Sun

Soil moisture  Moist but adaptable highly adaptable to drier conditions

Preferred soils Loam to clay, but highly adaptable

Is it a bully? No.  Expands to form tall, narrow clumps. 

Drought tolerance Does best with regular water.

Toughness rating Is resilient when established, but with limits. Must have some moisture.

Should you give this plant a try Yes, if you have full sun and reasonable moisture. Also, you can chop this plant in May for a shorter plant.
