Pycnanthemum muticum - Clustered Mountain Mint

Sale price$3.75

Tanya’s Take: Like many pollinators, I love this plant. Strong grower, free flowering, smells wonderful, great silvery color. Great plant.

Pollinators served: Special value to native bees, bumble bees and honey bees.  Attracts butterflies. This plant hands down attracts more bees and other pollinators than any other plant. It literally buzzes from the amount of pollinators that visit.

Color and texture:  Medium texture with silvery leaves

Flowers:  Whitish-pinkish-purplish in summer-fall

Height:  3-4’

Sun, part shade or shade?:  Full sun to part shade

Is it a bully?  This plant, Clustered or Blunt Mountain Mint is Pycnanthemum muticum.  This Pycnanthemum variety is a clump forming plant that spreads slowly by rhizomes.

PLEASE NOTE: most people are more familiar with the most common Mountain mint, Pycnanthemum incanum, which is known to be an aggressive grower.  That is NOT this plant.

Drought tolerance: Best in consistent moisture, but I've grown it in my dry yard just fine.

Toughness rating:  Very tough. Does well in my dry yard. Would definitely like more water, but it doesn't stop it from growing and flowering.

Should you give this plant a try: Yes, if you need a plant that will fill a space but with manners.

Is this native:  Yup. DC, MD and VA
