Carex pensylvanica - PENSYLVANIA SEDGE

Sale price$3.75

Tanya’s Take I have observed but not grown this. This deep green grass is semi-evergreen with graceful 1' blades. It is clump forming plant and can with patience become a soft, loose ground cover.

Pollinators served Bees and smaller pollinators

Color and texture Clump forming

Flowers Spring spikelets are held above the leaves early summer

Height ~1'

Sun, part shade or shade? Part to full shade

Soil moisture Average to dry

Preferred soils  Well drained high organic matter soil

Is it a bully? No. It's rhizomes slowly expand to form attractive clumps

Drought tolerance Does well in average or dryish shade.

Toughness rating Unknown to me, but I suspect it's pretty adaptable given where I've seen it growing.

Should you give this plant a try Yes!  If you have a shady spot that doesn't get bone dry all the time I'd give it a go!

Is this native Yup. Entire east coast including DC, MD and VA
