Eupatorium perfoliatum - BONESET

Sale price$3.75

Tanya’s Take: A free flowering unfussy, native beauty.

Pollinators served: Special value for bees.  Attracts birds and butterflies. Nectar source.

Color and texture:  Vertical cluster of stalks with longish pointy leaves.  Medium texture.

Flowers:  Flat white flowers top stems summer - fall

Height:  3-4’. Keep in mind more sun/less water will surely mean a shorter plant.

Sun, part shade or shade?:   Sun-part shade. It’s a close cousin to Joe Pye Weed and takes similar growing conditions.

Is it a bully?  Does self sow where it's happy but for me I didn't find it overwhelming. Grows fast. Will flower first year and you'll have to keep it in bounds but I didn't find it hard.

Drought tolerance: Grows in ditches and wet areas and it will be a uber achiever under those conditions. However, it's very adaptable. Grows fine in my very dry yard, even in full shade (where it need staking very badly...I don't recommend growing it in shade).

Toughness rating: Very

Should you give this plant a try: Yes. Worth experimenting with but keep in mind it's assertiveness.

Is this native:  Yup. Entire east coast including DC, MD and VA
