Achillea millifolium - YARROW

Sale price$3.00

Tanya’s Take I'm growing this for the first time now. New Moon Nursery describes it as: Among the flowering plants you will find few that are as tough as common yarrow. This trouper tolerates drought & commonly appears in inhospitable disturbed sites.  Foliage, however, looks delicate and ferny. Bloom time is long and flowers attract beneficial insects.

Pollinators served In others gardens this is busy, busy plant.  It's why I knuckled under and got some this year.

Color and texture Slender stems of ferny foliage hold clusters of flowers up high.

Flowers Long lasting summer bloomer.

Height Highly variable depending on sun and soil planted in.  In general, 2-4'.

Sun, part shade or shade? Sun

Soil moisture Moist to dry.  Highly adaptable.  Looks best with regular water.  However, in good garden soil can spread aggressively.

Preferred soils Highly adaptable to soils from sand to clay.

Is it a bully? It expands at a fast rate in good conditions through rhizomes and self seeding. Good plant for a full sun trouble spot or one with erosion issues.

Drought tolerance Very, very drought tolerant.

Toughness rating Probably the toughest of the tough...and really pretty too!

Should you give this plant a try Yes. I'd try this if you think you have a black thumb!  Or use it as a problem solver.

Is this native Yup. Entire east coast including DC, MD and VA
